Percussion and Songs of Brazil course

This is a new and exciting course all where we'll take a dive into some of the many percussion and song styles from around Brazil, as well as taking a closer look at culture + history behind them. Splitting the course into blocks based on common regions of Brazil that these styles come from.

BLOCK 1: BAHIA

Week 2: Samba Reggae

Week 4: Contemporary music

STARTS OCTOBER 21st
 

BLOCK 2: PERNAMBUCO
(Oct 21st - Nov 11th)

Week 1: Maracatu 
Week 2: Coco + Ciranda

Week 4: Contemporary music

STARTS NOVEMBER 18th
 

BLOCK 3: RIO + SÃO PAULO
(Nov 18th - Dec 16th)

Week 1: Roda De Samba
Week 2: Jongo
Week 3: Bossa Nova
Week 4: Samba Enredo
Week 5: Contemporary music

The aim of these classes is to give you a good insight into each of these styles/cultures/traditions and to give you a greater understanding of Brazilian life.

Prices and tickets

There are 2 ticket types: "live lessons" and "notes only". In the live lessons, you will have the opportunity to ask questions which will help shape the class, musical content will be broken down and explained in detail and learning some basic vocabulary in Portuguese.

1 Block = £30 Live, £25 Notes Only
2 Blocks = £60 Live, £55 Notes Only
3 Blocks = £75 Live, £70 Notes Only


Concessions are available for anyone who is registered Self-employed, receiving income support, has had their job impacted by the global pandemic or lives in a country with a vastly different currency (eg Reais, Pesos). Please get in touch about this as it's something that will be worked out on a case-by-case basis to bring you the most value.

"Do I need an instrument to take part?" 
Absolutely not. This isn't all about the drumming.

Throughout the blocks, much of the instrumental instruction will be as general as possible, with a minority of sections covering specific instrument technique.
